Inclusive Travel for All – Isle of Man Airport Supports Dementia Awareness
Isle of Man Airport is proud to support Dementia Awareness Week, an initiative dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of dementia, and to promoting compassionate support for those living with the condition.
As part of our commitment to inclusive and accessible travel, we recognise the unique challenges faced by individuals living with dementia and their families. This week, we’re taking steps to highlight the importance of dementia-friendly environments - both in the air and on the ground.
Creating a Dementia-Friendly Travel Experience
We understand that airports can be overwhelming for some passengers. That’s why Isle of Man Airport offers a range of services designed to support those travelling with dementia, including:
- Quiet space, this room is situated before going through security for rest and to promote calm when travelling.
- Assistance services available on request, tailored to individual needs.
- Sunflower Lanyards, available free of charge at the airport, for passengers who may benefit from discreet, non-verbal support.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme is recognised internationally and allows passengers with non-visible conditions - including dementia - to signal that they may need additional time, understanding, or assistance during their journey. Our staff are trained to recognise the Sunflower and respond with empathy and care.

We’re also sharing practical travel tips across our social media channels to help passengers prepare for their journey with confidence.
Working Together with Our Community
We’re committed to supporting dementia awareness across the Isle of Man and are actively exploring opportunities to collaborate with local organisations. By raising awareness and promoting inclusive travel, we aim to contribute to a more dementia-friendly airport, where everyone feels safe, supported, and respected.
