UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is the only ‘entire nation’ UNESCO Biosphere, designated under the UN body’s Man and the Biosphere Programme.

Biospheres have three functions: promoting sustainable development, conservation, and learning. The designation is awarded to places with special environments and cultures and with populations committed to keeping them special.

Locally, UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man delivers its aims and ambitions under its strategy ‘Working Together for a Sustainable Future’ and under the five Es of economy, education, engagement, enjoyment, and environment. As the planet faces environmental emergencies, the Isle of Man’s Biosphere status commits it to positive actions.

When visiting our UNESCO Biosphere, enjoy it, respect it, and take time to find out more about it.

We would love to say hello.
